MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming oil into biodiesel presently gain from a 20p differential however that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said “a variety of little services in Cornwall presently generate income from used cooking oil”.

He included: “In order to be able to get this sort of market going it does require just a bit of lift which can be found in the form of tax foregone.”

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
